Testing and Research of Cosmetic Products
The cosmetics industry adheres to strict regulatory requirements, and launching a product often involves an extensive testing and documentation process to ensure the product’s safety and efficacy.
What Tests and Research Can Be Conducted on Products?
Skin and Eye Tests
These tests assess the product’s safety on the skin. The product is applied to a small area of skin, and its effects are monitored over several days to see if it causes irritation, allergic reactions, or other side effects. The same process is conducted on the skin around the eyes.
Microbiological Tests
These tests evaluate the microbiological purity of the product, ensuring that bacteria, fungi, or other microbes do not grow in it. We use quantitative real-time PCR for its accuracy, as it also provides insights into the microbiological background of raw materials.
Stability Testing
These tests assess the stability and shelf-life of the product under various conditions, such as temperature fluctuations and light exposure. The goal is to ensure that the product maintains its efficacy and quality throughout its shelf life. After the shelf-life period, microbiological tests can be performed again.
Clinical Tests on Volunteers
Once the above tests are completed, the product’s performance and safety are measured on a larger group of volunteers. These clinical tests may focus on factors such as increased skin hydration, wrinkle reduction, or other skin-related improvements. Testing on a larger group also helps identify any potential allergic reactions or irritations.
Feedback
Feedback from consumers is an essential part of product testing and ongoing improvement. This can be gathered through product usage evaluations, providing insights into how the product performs in real-life conditions. Consumer feedback, while the product is on the market, serves as valuable data to demonstrate its functionality and safety.
